What is pollen, and why is it a problem?

Pollen is the microscopic grains plants release into the air to reproduce. Wind-pollinated trees, grasses and weeds produce huge amounts of pollen, which the wind carries over long distances. Some people’s immune systems overreact to pollen, causing symptoms such as sneezing, a runny nose and itchy eyes.
