How often should I clean it?
It depends on where your home is and the season. When the outer side of the filter has darkened noticeably, or the room starts to take longer to air than before, it is time to clean it.
- By a road, near a building site, in an industrial area: Check it more often.
- Pollen season: In spring and early summer the filter fills faster.
- Quiet, green areas: Less frequent cleaning is enough.
Step-by-step cleaning
- Take the filter off. Peel the hook-and-loop model off its tape; for the framed model, take the screen out.
- Remove the dry dust. Gently clean the outer side with a soft brush or the brush attachment of a vacuum cleaner on low power.
- Rinse. Rinse the filter with lukewarm water from the outer side towards the inner side. A shower head or a low-pressure garden hose will do the job.
- Dry. Leave the filter to dry flat or hanging, out of direct sunlight.
- Put it back. Once it is completely dry, refit it with the dark side facing out.
