Mould spores and windows in autumn

In autumn, damp air and rotting leaves increase mould spores in the air. Mould spores can get in through the window; a window filter holds back a large share of these spores. To tackle mould in the home, however, you need to control humidity and air the home regularly.

Mould spores and windows in autumn

Short answer

Mould spores are very small particles carried in the air. In autumn they increase in outdoor air because of rotting leaves and damp.

Outdoor mould and indoor mould

  • Outdoor mould spores: Get in through the window. Mould and fungal spores – we explain the filter’s role on that page.
  • Indoor mould: Forms from humidity in bathrooms, kitchens and on cold walls. The filter does not solve this; you need to reduce the humidity.

Tips

  1. Air the home briefly and fully every day.
  2. Avoid drying laundry in a closed room.
  3. Reduce the spore load from outside by fitting a filter to the window.
If you have been diagnosed with a mould allergy or asthma, talk to your doctor.
