Short answer
Pollen season is not a single period; different plants release pollen at different times. There are roughly three waves: trees, grasses and weeds.
Waves of pollen
- Tree pollen: From the last weeks of winter to mid-spring. Species such as hazel, alder, birch, plane and olive.
- Grass pollen: From late spring to midsummer. This is usually the hardest period for people with allergies.
- Weed pollen: Late summer and early autumn.
The season can start earlier in coastal areas and later in high, cold areas.
