New-generation insect screen

Your window open,
dust and pollen outside

The Odera window filter is a three-layer nanofiber membrane fitted in place of an insect screen. It lets air through and stops dust, pollen and insects smaller than mosquitoes from getting in.

A three-layer nanofiber window filter: air flows in, while dust, pollen and tiny insects stay outside.

An insect screen stops flies. What about dust?

The holes in a standard insect mesh are small enough for flies and mosquitoes but far too large for particles such as dust, pollen and soot. So every time you open the window, dust comes in with the outside air: the windowsill darkens, furniture gets dusty quickly and pollen season brings constant sneezing. Most of us end up closing the window, and the home gets stuffy.

The window filter was developed to end this dilemma. It looks like an insect screen and fits in the same place, but its nanofiber layer lets air through while holding back dust and pollen. So you can leave your window open with peace of mind.

  • Lets air throughWith the window open the room keeps airing; the filter does not block the air, it holds back the particles in it.
  • Holds back dust and pollenReduces road, construction and city dust, and pollen in spring and summer.
  • Stops tiny insectsAs well as flies and mosquitoes, it keeps out tiny insects such as sand flies that can pass through an ordinary mesh.
  • WashableWhen it gets dirty, vacuum it in place or take it off and rinse it with water; no detergent needed.
  • Long-lastingWith layers that withstand sun and weather and edges that do not fray when cut, it lasts for seasons.
  • Rainproof and usable in winterIt keeps direct rain out; it can stay fitted all year round, so you can open the window a little and air the room in winter too.
  • Gives privacyWith the dark side facing out, it is hard to see in from outside while your view from inside stays clear.
  • You can fit it yourselfThe hook-and-loop model fits with scissors and a few minutes; the roll model goes into your existing insect screen frame.

How does a window filter work?

Air passes through the filter; dust, pollen, smoke and insects stay outside. See this in the animation on the left and the layers in the diagram on the right.

Smoke, dust, allergens and spores stay in the nanofiber membrane.

Three layers, one job: air in, dust out

The filter’s strength comes from its layered structure. The outer mesh protects the membrane, the nanofiber membrane in the middle holds back particles, and the inner mesh carries the whole structure. Nanofiber is a web of fibres much finer than a human hair; its pores are small enough to hold back dust and pollen yet numerous enough to let air through.

Frequently asked

What is a window filter?

A window filter is a three-layer nanofiber membrane fitted to windows and doors like an insect screen. It lets air through and stops dust, pollen and tiny insects from getting in. It is also known as a new-generation insect screen, dustproof insect screen or pollen screen.

Does a window filter let air through?

Yes. The filter is designed to filter the air, not to block it. With the window open the room keeps airing. Like any filter it slows the airflow a little; in windy weather you will hardly notice, while on very still days the room may take a little longer to air than with an ordinary screen.

How is it different from an ordinary insect screen?

The holes in an ordinary insect mesh are small for flies and mosquitoes but large for dust and pollen. The nanofiber layer in the middle of the window filter also holds back fine particles in the air. You can find a detailed comparison on the window filter vs insect screen page.

Is it helpful for people with pollen allergy?

A window filter reduces the amount of pollen that gets in while the window is open. This makes opening the window, and especially airing the bedroom, more comfortable in pollen season. The filter is not a treatment; continue your allergy treatment with your doctor.

Does it also stop mosquitoes and tiny insects?

Yes. As well as flies and mosquitoes, it keeps out tiny insects such as sand flies that can pass through an ordinary insect mesh.

Do I need an installer?

Not for the hook-and-loop model; scissors and a clean surface are enough. You can fit the roll model into your existing screen frame yourself; if you need a new frame, your screen maker can help.

Can the window filter be washed?

Yes. Take the filter off and rinse it with lukewarm water from the outer side towards the inner side. Do not scrub it, and do not use detergent, bleach or a washing machine; refit it once it is dry.

How long does a window filter last?

A filter that is fitted correctly and cleaned regularly lasts for years. It is made from materials that withstand sun and weather. If airflow drops noticeably despite washing, or if it tears, we recommend replacing it.
