Where does house dust come from?
House dust is not a single substance. It contains soil and road dust from outside, pollen, soot, textile fibres, skin flakes, pet hair, and house dust mites and their waste. Many people with dust allergy are particularly sensitive to allergens from mites.
What does a window filter change?
A window filter reduces the outside part of the dust load. If you live by a road, near a building site or in a windy area, this share is large. With a window filter, less dust gets into your home and your cleaning stays effective for longer.
What should you do about mites?
Mites live in beds, pillows, rugs and upholstery; a window filter does not affect mites directly. To reduce mite allergens:
- Wash bedding and pillowcases regularly in hot water.
- Consider using mite-proof mattress and pillow covers.
- Cut down on rugs and dust-collecting textiles in the bedroom.
- Use a vacuum cleaner with a HEPA filter.
- Air the home regularly to keep humidity low; a window filter lets you do this without worrying about outdoor dust.
