Pleated insect screen or hook-and-loop filter?

A pleated insect screen folds open and shut on doors and wide windows, but usually only stops insects. A hook-and-loop window filter stays fixed, also holds back dust and pollen, and fits without drilling. For doors used often, pleated screens win; for windows where you want clean air, the hook-and-loop filter does.

Pleated insect screen or hook-and-loop filter?

Short answer

The two meet different needs. A pleated screen makes it easy to pass through; a hook-and-loop filter gives clean air.

Can a window filter be fitted to a pleated system?

Pleated and concertina systems are designed for mesh that folds. A window filter is not suited to this folding. If you have such systems, ask us first.

Our recommendation

If the balcony door is used often, you can keep the pleated screen there and fit a hook-and-loop filter to the windows. That way, while the home airs, dust and pollen do not come in through the windows that stay open the most.
