How do you replace insect screen mesh?

To replace insect screen mesh, pull the spline out of its channel, remove the old mesh, lay the new mesh on the frame, press it in with spline and trim the excess. If you fit a nanofiber window filter in place of the old mesh, your insect screen will also hold back dust and pollen.

How do you replace insect screen mesh?

Short answer

You do not need to throw away the frame to replace torn or dust-clogged insect mesh. With spline and a little patience you can renew the mesh yourself.

  1. Take the frame down

    Take the frame down

Take the screen down and lay it on a flat surface, find the end of the spline and pull it out.

  2. Cut the new material

    Cut the new material

Cut the new mesh or window filter so it overlaps the frame a little on every side.

  3. Press it in with spline

    Press it in with spline

Starting at one corner, press the material into the channel with spline, stretching it slightly on the opposite side.

  4. Trim the excess

    Trim the excess

Trim the excess with a utility knife and put the screen back.

Window filter instead of mesh

Window filter by the roll fits into the same frame in place of ordinary mesh. The difference: along with flies, it keeps out dust, pollen and tiny insects. Detailed guide: fitting into a screen frame.

A window filter is slightly thicker than ordinary mesh. Frames with very narrow channels may need a spline one size thinner.
